ARCA CHARITIES

The Arizona Roofing Contractors Association is proud to support many charities. Some of our Members contribute financially while others volunteer their time. ARCA members are dedicated to various charities and have individual programs benefiting their communities.

After years of planning and waiting for approval from the Internal Revenue Service, ARCA was finally granted 501(c)(3) status for its affiliated organization, the Arizona Roofing Industry Foundation (ARIF). For years ARCA has been very active in support of the Youth at Risk and Youth on Their Own organizations but it has always been frustrating to volunteers when requesting contributions as most givers do not fund trade associations because gifts are not tax deductible. By staging the events under the ARIF name, that obstacle has been overcome because all gifts are now recognized by the IRS as tax deductible. While the name will change, the events are still ARCA events and most of the changes will be transparent to the participants.

There is one important administrative financial change worth noting. In the past, companies wanting to participate in events had the event fee added to their ARCA monthly invoice. That will no longer be possible and all payments should be made payable to ARIF. To comply with new IRS requirements, ARIF is structured to accept cash, check or credit cards only. If an invoice is needed to process payments please contact the ARCA / ARIF office with your request.

The new Foundation is modeled after highly successful foundations created at both WSRCA and NRCA with the intent of offering academic scholarships to roofing dependents. Eligible applicants include any full time employees of an ARCA contractor or supplier member company or their dependent children and spouses. The first scholarship applications are scheduled to be released in late March with the selection process completed by June. To increase the scholarship endowment fund ARIF is planning special fund raising activities with all the proceeds being retained for future scholarship awards.

While affiliated with ARCA, the Foundation was intentionally created with an independent Board of Directors comprised of:

President - Bryan Torry (Roofing Supply Group)
Vice President - Martin Headlee (Headlee Roofing)
Treasurer - John Plescia (Star Roofing)
Secretary - Marc Stewart (Stewart Building & Roofing Supply)
Director - Ron Brown (Jim Brown & Sons Roofing)
Director - Tim Ducar (Lorona, Steiner, Ducar-Attorney at Law)
Director - Mac McKenna (Desert Hills Bank)
